2011 SOCIAL SEASON
Our Schedule for the season and reports on the events follow below;-
Not an actual club event, but the Fourth Annual Crab Bash at Mackeys Marina took place on the 23rd April.
Spring Series 1st Race – 7th May
Party was hosted by Rob and Mimi Reiheld and a great time was had by all.
Spring Series 2nd Race – 21st May
Party was hosted by Bob and Jean Batson in their new home. Many thanks for a great party.
Pursuit Race – 28th May
Five boats made the trip over to Mackeys in a shifty southerly. Mimi Reiheld won the race sailing Cinder. The sailors were joined by some members who came by road and we all had a great party. The sail home was a brisk beam reach. Great day!
Spring Series 3rd Race – 4th June
The Raft Up in Pembroke Creek was a great success, thanks to Rob and Mimi Reiheld for hosting in on Rob's creation, Lotus Eater. Some pictures of the event can be viewed by clicking on the link.
PRYC Regatta –11th June
Only two EYC boats made the trip to Elizabeth City, but were rewarded with two good finishes.
OYC Regatta – 25th June
Osprey Yacht Club put on a superb event as usual and the weather cooperated with some wind. Four EYC boats managed to take in this regatta.
Fall Series 1st Race – 27th August
This was to be our first Fall Series race and New Members party afterwards, but Irene came to call and we had to cancel the event.
CYC – 10th September
Colington Yacht club managed to hold their regatta in spite of significant damage to the area below the clubhouse where we usually had our get together, thanks to the loan of the Fire House and the lower floor of the clubhouse. Three EYC boats would have been there, but Teacher's Pet had engine trouble and were unable to get there. The day was saved by the generosity of a CYC member who lent Joe Kenney and his crew his Pearson 30.
Fall Series 2nd Race – 17th September
We had a great breeze, sometimes a little to much and intended to get three races in to make up for the ones missed by Irene. However, after two races everyone had had enough for one day.
EYC Regatta – 1st October
18 boats competed in the four classes in another windy day that saw the racing over by lunch time.
Fall Series 3rd Race day – 8th October
The final Party of the year was hosted by Bill and Phyllis Pepper, and as usual we all had a great time after a wonderful day when we got three races completed.
ASSA Match Racing Championship 15th October. This is a great spectator event and the dinner afterwards is superb, catered by the new River House Restaurant.
Many Thanks to all the members who hosted or helped with the social program throughout last season. It is your hard work that makes being a member of EYC so worthwhile. We look forward to another great year.
